Sanctuary’s annual “Concert of 100 Candles” celebrates reflective music
Concert of 100 Candles at St Paul’s Church in Halifax, December 13th, 2011 at 8:00 pm
1749 ARGYLE ST Halifax, Nova Scotia (on the Grand Parade)
Slow Music for a fast time of year
Jeff Reilly – bass clarinet
Peter Togni – organ and piano
Christoph Both – cello
The Trio Sanctuary is presenting its 13th (believe it or not!) Concert of 100 Candles – Doors open at 7:00, tickets ($15.00 and $10.00) are available only at the door.
The Christmas season is often the busiest time of year. Preparations can often be so intense that we sometimes miss out on the chance to “step away” and find time for deep reflection.
Music that boldly shifts down into the heart of space, openness, and contemplation and for a little over an hour, gives you a chance to go slow in a fast time.
Juno and ECMA nominated Halifax trio, Sanctuary started in 1998 as an informal series of concerts at St. Mary’s Basilica in Halifax. Since then the three members have released 3 CDs, and performed over 100 concerts playing in every type of music festival across Canada and Europe, often collaborating with local choirs.
Each holiday season, hundreds of people attend this deeply personal concert event. More of a collective journey than a performance, more of a happening than a concert, Sanctuary bring deep listening to the heart of the city this Christmas with a program of rich contemplative music and early holiday carols.
In a time where the classical music world has become saturated with unoriginal ‘cross-over’ recordings, Sanctuary’s work is more than just a breath of fresh air. In terms of both concept and execution it is almost entirely unprecedented.
Please feel free to bring a pillow to sit or lie on if you wish!
