Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
PETER-ANTHONY TOGNI | December 2012On Sunday December 16 CBC Radio 2 presents Joy to the World, a full day of holiday music programming from the countries of the European Broadcasting Union. It is a tradition that's been going strong for 19 years, uniting the globe through traditional music for the holiday season. It is no exaggeration to say Joy to the World is the most anticipated broadcast event of the year on CBC Radio 2.
Again this year, Peter Togni will guide CBC Radio 2 listeners as they travel from country to country, enjoying live performances from historic churches and concert halls across Europe and from Montreal, Canada.
Opening Gala - Monday January 28 2013 - Winnipeg is
the place to be in January for the 22nd Annual New
Music Festival. The opening gala presents one of the
world’s most celebrated choirs: the Elmer Iseler Singers. They
will be joined by one of Canada’s premiere bass clarinetists
Jeff Reilly, and soprano Rebecca Whelan. Together they will
bring to you a performance of the extraordinary work Lamentatio Jeremiae Prophetae (Lamentations of the
Prophet Jeremiah) by Canada’s own Peter-Anthony Togni.
Hailed by critics around the world, the work has captivated
audiences for its powerful interpretation of texts from “The
Book of Lamentations”. The evening’s concert will open with a
work by iconic Canadian composer Harry Freedman titled Voices,
followed by Silent Dawn composed by Timothy Corlis,
one of this generation’s fastest rising stars. Also featured
will be Kaija Saariaho’s haunting work Tag Des Jahrs (Day
of the Year) for choir and electronics.

2013 will hopefully see the album available digitally through on-line retailers such as iTunes and Amazon. This fall was a busy time for the Trio!
In September 2012 Peter-Anthony and the Togni Trio joined the
choirs of Sacred
Heart University for the première of Mass of the New Light which
was commissioned in celebration of its 50th anniversary as well
as the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council. The work
is a new and exciting setting of the Mass based in the jazz
tradition and scored for soloists, the Sacred Heart University
Choir, piano, bass, percussion, soprano saxophone, handbells and
organ (Galen Tate) under the direction of John Michniewicz,
Director of Choral Programs.
November and December saw the Trio performing in Toronto at St.
Philips Anglican Church for Jazz
Vespers and as part of World Music Sunday at St. John's United
Church. This was followed up by a start to the Christmas
Season when the Trio joined the Cantores
Celestes Women's Choir for their presentation of Sweet with
Starlight -
Jazz and Classical Christmas Favourites at Runnymede United
Church.

There are a few exciting projects in the works that are not far
enough along for a formal announcement - BUT - keep watch for a
new CD from Peter-Anthony in 2013! Peter was hard a work
at Number 9 Audio this fall in
Toronto and we are looking forward to a CD of Solo Piano very soon!
I have also heard rumoured in the creative halls that there are
plans afoot for an operatic project - stay tuned for more
details. Work is also under way on a new piece for bass clarinet
and tenor voice based on the Machaut Mass that will feature John
Potter and Jeff Reilly - watch for upcoming details on the Responsio Project.
